The GoudieFX Compressor is faithful recreation of the popular Ross compressor, all components used are low noise/audio quality to ensure the best possible sound from the compressor. There are improvements to original design, mostly around the power supply filtering for increased AC ripple rejection and improved biasing. Q3/Q4 transistors are matched to 1% or better to ensure a symmetrical/balanced guitar signal from the output stage in the compressor and eliminate unwanted distortion.

For best results I recommend using this pedal as the first pedal in your signal chain, some people find it works better as the last the pedal before the amplifier (so it can smooth the spikes from your overdrive/distortion/signal chain). Using the compressor first/last in the signal chain creates very different sounds, I recommend trying both to see which works best in your rig (I definitely prefer first).

This pedal really shines when used for country, western, R&B, blues and rock where you are using more clean and/or mildly overdriven tones vs. high gain distortion/metal type tones, but experiment to see what sounds best if your particular setup.

Features

Input treble cut capacitor removed allowing more high frequencies through to the output, this makes the pedal less "muddy" sounding.

Power filtering/AC rejection caps increased to 100uF from 10uF, much less AC hum when using a noisy wall wart power supply.

Fixed bias resistors are used in place of a trim pot that can be set incorrectly (it's not meant to be adjusted once set)

All signal coupling capacitors are low noise/audio grade metallized film based, these are much more expensive than the typical caps you see will in some pedals (especially mass produced ones) but well worth the tone upgrade.

2N5089 modern low noise transistors are used in the circuit. These yield better overall tone with less noise/distortion, it's subtle difference but definitely an improvement.

1% metal film resistors

5% metallized film caps (high grade, audio quality)

3pdt True Bypass Switching

Double sided PCB using design techniques to minimize interference, noise and parasitic oscillations/interferences. Including routing power on one side, while routing guitar signals on the other
