Artist Spotlight: Pappy: theCAUSE, Reuben’s Painted Mandolin
About 2 years ago, I was sponsored by PHRED Instruments and presented with a Liger 1.0 with stock electronics. When I first plugged it in I felt the tingle. It was the closest “Jerry sound” I’d achieved. I’ve been adding to that sound over the past 2 years, adding a brass nut, the brass plate, upgraded harmonica bridge, upgraded jacks and have now replaced the stock pickups with DiMarzios (Super 2s on neck and middle and Super Distortion on the bridge). Freddy Rose has been extremely ‘instrumental’ in helping me get parts. His customer service has been nothing short of amazing. I can’t recommend PHRED enough for those, like me, that want that Jerry tone and can’t afford to drop 5 figures on the true, handmade exotic wood replicas. This guitar has been a lot of fun to play with my bands, theCAUSE (mostly GD covers) and Reuben’s Painted Mandolin (JGB Tribute). As Freddy told me the stock pickups get you in the ballpark and the DiMarzios put you on the field. If you’re looking for the Jerry tone at an affordable price, PHRED is where it’s at.

A friend suggested he listen to “the Grateful Dead’s rhythm guitarist Bob Weir, he’s different, I think you’ll like what he does.” Yup. Loved his work ever since. Saw the Grateful Dead for the first time a year later along with David Perkins (whom he still performs with in Gettin' Weir'd and Last Fair Deal ) along with a considerable chunk of their senior year classmates.
